The movie is about the 8 year old boy Burno, his sister Gretel, his father and mother- who move from Berlin to a new residence where his dad got a better job.  Bruno didn’t want to leave Berlin and leave all of his good friends and their really nice and big house behind. But he had to- the new house is really isolated without any neighbors. Well let’s not say no neighbors- their “neighbors “ are the Jews in the concentration camp where his father became a commandant, as it turns out later in the movie.

Bruno and Gretel don’t go to school- the dad paid a tutor to come to their house and teach them. He teaches after the Hitler thinking( that Jews are bad people, “trash”)

But Bruno doesn’t even listen to him, because he isn’t interested in history. He sees through a little window the “farm” which actually is the concentration camp. He really wants to find friends and play with kids so he asks his parents if he could go over to the farm and meet some kids, but they don’t want him to. One day he sneaks out and goes over to the camp there is a high wire mesh fence all around the camp. He sees a boy his age and introduces himself to him. They get good friends but no one can know about it because the boy is Jewish and Bruno German and his family nazis. Bruno goes there every day to see his new friend, everything that keeps them from playing with each other is the fence. One day his friend seems really sad and there is a reason for it- his dad and the other man who got sent to a different working place didn’t come back in days and Bruno also has bad news he is going to move back to Berlin with his mother and sister, because his mother can’t live with the dad anymore they always fought,  and the mother can’t believe that her husband is also responsible for killing all of the Jewish; she also thinks that this area is just not the right one to raise her kids in. So the night before the day when Bruno is supposed to leave they decide together to sneak Bruno into the camp and find the dad together. How this goes, you can easily find out by watching the movie yourself:)

I liked everything about the movie, I really enjoyed how they used the POWER of silence in some shots it has a huge effect on you, watching the movie. The acting was just amazing, I loved watching the movie and I felt engaged the entire time. While I was watching the movie I didn’t even realize that there where cuts and different shots. It just felt like you are part of the movie. Now after watching the movie thinking about the cinematography behind this movie I can tell how much work and time they must have put into filming and editing. During the conversations of Bruno and his friend the camera angle always switches, there are some over the shoulder shots, wide angle shots, close ups. I would 100% recommend that movie you should definitely watch it, it is a movie that made me cry and it also helps you to understand and realize what happened during this horrible time in Germany. And I think also an important message is that not all Germans were supporting Hitler, most of them got forced to.
